Kay,
Napolean B Hatcher was not a slave. He died about 1842 and Reuben Rumsey was the administrator of his estate. It would also not be unusual in that time period and area to have only a field stone as a marker.
If he was buried in what is now known as Montgomery cemetery, he may have been one of the first burials. I also do not have any known Hatcher-Montgomery connections for this Hatcher family.
It would be interesting to know, since there was only a stone marker, how it was determined that Napoleon was buried there.
