Here is what I have as notes re Armistead Hatchell (Hatsell) of Mecklenburg County, VA and Carteret County, NC in case this will be of help:
He is named on a land deed dated 178_, Mecklenburg Co, VA with his father who is stated to have moved to Carteret (“Cartwright”) Co, NC. He is mentioned in NC records as the settler for whom Hatchell Point and Hatchell Mill is named on the White Oak River, Carteret Co, NC.John Lovett to Armsted Hatsel, a tract of land (30ac) on north side of White Oak River and west side of Hadnot’s Creek adjoining Barrat’s (Barrod) line, said river and creek. This land first called Barrat’s Point, then Hatchell’s Point, and then Pelletier’s Point where a windmill was located.Land from the Vinson Barrod estate was also sold to William Hatchel, bricklayer, on White Oak at Hadnot Creek in Apr 1784.William Hatsel to Armsted hatsel, 130 ac. adj. land he bought from Lovett.On 6 Jul 1842 Willis Hatchell of Carteret to James W. Hatchell and Armisted Hatchell “sons of A. Hatchell all the lands that my father willed to my mother during her life and after her death to me”.In 1874 (Bk. HH, p. 49), James and William Hatsel bought from D. W. Sanders land known as Hatchell’s Point lying at mouth of Hadnot’s creek.This land included the mill site and the Dudley Cemetery.Oct. 1, 1875, Wm. Hatchell to Jermiah Peletier, the land above (Deed Bk. O, p. 2).His Carteret County will is dated 1824 under the name of A. Hatsell.He wrote his will 7 Aug 1822, proved 1824.Wife Nancy, “support of my younger children”, son James to have land with his brother Willis and Willis to have where the house is.At death or marriage of widow, all rest to be sold and divided amongst Bertree, Nansee, Lusee, Suckee, Lisee and Charlotte.Their share already given to Cottle Grimes and Anne Gillet.“John Hill to settle my business.”The Hill family livied at the far western end of Carteret County along White Oak River near Jones County line, and their plantation joined that of Armistead Hatchel.
Carteret Deed Bk. O, p. 200-201: 6 Nov 1800 Armistead Hatsel & wife Lucy (and others) to Sarah Wallis, all of Carteret, for $318.75 two tracts of 200 ac and 100 ac. each, on Bogue Sound.Lucy Wallis Hatsel and others inherited this from their father Reuben Wallis, who d. Apr. 1800.Reuben inherited from his father Valentine Wallis..
Armistead Hatsell brought to Court and had registered a note re estate of Lebbeus Hunter, who had died Sep 1806, Carteret County (One Dozen Pre-Revolutionary War Families of Eastern NC byn P. W.; Fisher, 1958, New Bern, NC.Lebbeus Hunter was b. in 1741 in Craven County and married Clarkey Davis in 1795 Carteret County.He was son of Nicholas Hunter of Penn.
Deed Bk. P, p. 117-148:Armisted Hatsel giving slaves to dau. Anny Hatsel, dau. Abigail and her husband Reuben Dennis, and dau. Lotey,all 1807.
