Dear Kathye, I believe I can give you some addl info on this family. John Jackson Hasty was born abt 1824 in Harris Co. GA. He married Mary J. Beverly, daughter of William Beverly & Elizabeth Patrick on 3 Oct 1854 in Dooly Co GA. Mary was born abt 1834 in GA & died betw. 1872-1877 in TX. The earliest record I can find of Mary Beverly is in the 1850 Census of Dooly Co. GA. Her siblings were: Louisa, Nathan, John Pernal, Nancy, Adaline, Andrew Jackson, Thomas J. & L.C. Beverly (feml). Mary's mother, Elizabeth Patrick, was the daughter of Pernal Patrick & Catherine Parsons. Pernal was born in 1776 in MD & died in GA. Catherine was born in 1784 in VA. Georgia Marriages, 1699-1944 John Jackson Hasty married Mary Beverly on 3 Oct 1854 in Dooly Co. GA. John & Mary apparently lived in GA for several years after their marriage, as their oldest known child, James E., was born in GA in 1858. The reason you can't find them in the 1860 census is because they must have been traveling to TX where their daughter Lizzie was born in 1860. They missed the census due to travel. By 1880, Mary had died & John was remarried. He is listed in the census of Marion Co. TX as 'John Hostey'. In his household are listed: wife, Martha A. (37) born in GA; son, John H. (14) born in TX; son Freman P. (11), born in TX; son Union (9), born in TX; daughter Georgia M. (2) born in TX; and an unnamed son, age 6 months, also born in TX. The two youngest children were the children of Martha A. Hasty & given her age, she may have been married before & may have had other children. After 1880, I lose track of John, who was probably deceased, and I haven't been able to track Martha either. Two reasons Lizzie would be living with her sister in 1880 instead of her father: 1) Her sister Mary may have been expecting a child & Lizzie was there to help out. 2) She didn't get along with her step-mother. As far as John Hasty is concerned, I believe him to be the son of William Hasty & an unknown mother. William Hasty was born in 1797 in NC, probably Wayne Co. He died in Harris Co.GA. He and his wife had 9 children: John, William Jr., Eliza A., Julia, Elizabeth, Martin V., Albert, Mary and Sarah R. Hasty. Given the names of his daughters, I would say that his wife's name may have been Elizabeth, but that is presumption on my part. William has was the son of William Hasty & Jemima Hill of Wayne Co. NC. These would have been John's grandparents. This William Hasty was born in VA abt 1755 & died in 1807 in Wayne Co. NC. He married Jemima Hill abt 1784 in NC. She was born abt 1764 & died aft 1850 in MS. This children listed in old William Hasty's estate settlement were: Nowell, William, John, Robert, Benjamin, Delanah, Nancy & Joseph Hasty. They appear to all have been the children of Jemima Hill. After William's death in 1807, Jemima received a land grant in GA & moved her family there. Eventually they settled in Harris & Troup Co. GA & its vicinity. It's interesting to note that William's estate settlement in NC was witnessed by one Thomas Person, which could be a variant of Parsons (Catherine's family?) & ancestors of Mary Beverly. Hope this helps you continue your research. Please feel free to email me any time at abrachristian@yahoo.com PS-Going back further generations, I think William Hasty of Wayne Co. NC may be the son of John Hasty born abt 1731 in VA, son of James Hasty & Elizabeth Jordan of Southampton Co. VA. But this far from proven yet!
