My father did a lot of research on our family name --the earliest records he could access (recorded in both the domesday book--complied 1061--and the Ragman Rolls 1291-1296)was that they were seated in Derbyshire--They branched to Oxfordshire in the 15th century and from there to Lancashire. It is believed to have first appeared in Ireland in the person of army officers either during the Tudor plantation of Co leix (Queens Co) and Offaly (Kings Co )in 1556 in the reign of philip and Mary(1553-1558) --or else in the mid 17th century via Captain Francis Haslam of Oxfordshire who settled in either Queens Co or Kings Co circa 1646-47 during the reign of Charles 1st(1625-1649) and the name has been associated with these counties since - My fathers knowledge or our earliest identified relative is John Haslam--born Clontyglass ? 1788--married Ann Connor of Clonboyne and he took over that farm when that family (Connor )went to USA in 1840. This farm then remained in the Haslam family until Richard Haslam died in in 1892 and his widow married Fintan Graham --However we maintained relations with the farm at clonboyne and with my half great uncles (grahams ) when I was a child and visited there often until the farm was broken up in 1992--If anybody has any knowledge about John Haslam or anyone else associated with the farm at Clonboyne I would love to know --I am presently living in the USA but go home frequently to my family
