Hello Harold,
I didn't find much but a few clues that could lead your research back a bit.I found Joseph Haskins age 45 in St. John Twp, Harrison Co IAon 1870 census. He is listed as a Milk Merchant and his birthplace is listed as NY.Wife is Lucinda age 40 also b NY.Children:Chloe 14 b MI, Perry 12, b MI and Jennie 10 b IA.Is this your family? That suggests that they were still in MI until about 1858 but came to IA about 1860.
I found a Joseph Haskins age 22b NY Laborer, living in Grand Rapids City, Kent Co MI in 1850. He is living with the family of J. J. Baxter, wheelwright, b VT. Not sure if this is your Joseph or not. He was the only Joseph Haskins on the 1850 census in MI, but we don't know if your Joseph was in MI in 1850 or not.
Another possible clue--I found that Lucinda Larrabee was mother of Chloe. Is this correct? The first name matched with the census so I thought it might be possible.I checked the 1850 MI census for Lucinda Larrabee and found one living in Div 10 of Berrien Co, MI.She is living with the family of Robert Griffin 40 b Canada and his wife Sarah age 33 b NY.Lucinda is listed as age 21 b NY so she fits with the 1870 census.I don't know Lucinda's relationship with the Griffin family, but maybe she could be the sister of the wife, Sarah?
I know this doesn't help very much in finding out which Haskins family Joseph Aaron came from, but maybe there are some more clues to follow up that lead back to NY.By the way there was a Joseph Haskins family in Wolford, ON Canada. Some of the descendantscame back to the states, probably NY.I'm not very familiar with that line so I can't be of much help, but I think there are other researchers who are.
Chris
