I'm not sure how much this will help you but...Hasseltine with two s's mostly came from Chester and then Bradford, Ma, in particular a John Hasseltine b:11/8/1756 married Rebecca Barton, father of Ann "Nancy" Hasseltine Judson, 1 st missonary woman and her sister Abigail, Principal at Bradford College. Their grandfather was also a John and married Mary Ingalls. I believe he changed it to the two s's, but I am not sure as he is not in my direct line, I am a decentant of John's side not Roberts, which these people are on. This line would be Robert, Abraham, Richard, John, John.
One more thing to note that on different years of the census they spelt the name differently. iethey were all spelt one way, they the next time they were all spelt a different way, then again another way. The only thing that seems consistant is that they used 1 form of spelling for everyone each time, but differently every 10 years.
One other thing is... I read that most of John's decendants were spelt Haselton (or with a z) and most of Robert's were "Haseltine." Although it's mixed up everywhere because people changed the spelling all the time. I hope this helps.
