Dear John,
Thank you kindly for your respnse which is very interesting and helpful.I would be happy if you would forward my note along to any other researchers in the group that can help.
I have started to look into the publications you referred to by Helen Hoskins Rugeley and found that she has also written on the Brown side of the family so I am looking into finding ways to acquire access to these now.
It would make sense that anyone dating back that far from the Thurlby area could and would have Viking/Scandinavian ancestry as I believe that that area is quite close to the first place the Vikings landed/invaded the British mainland at Lindisfarne and of course held major encampments at York and I think Durham.
I do not know any Harwood-surname males now, but there are at least some listed in the town of Gonzales, TX where THOMAS MOORE HARWOOD settled and I am planning on being in touch with the library there as I see they hold HARWOOD obituaries and would seem to have some information. If I have any luck with this I will see what I might be able to come up with in terms of encouraging a DNA test.
Thank you again. This is most helpful and appreciated.
David Brown, Bellingham, WA
