Obituary for Edna (CREEL) HARVILLE of Durham & Chapel Hill, NC & Lakeland, FL.
Edna Creel Harville, 94, of Lakeland, Florida died July 22, 2010 at her residence in Lakeland of natural causes. She was born in Durham, North Carolina, on August 22, 1915, to Thomas B. and Betty Ellen Creel. She was educated in North Carolina schools and married her late husband Harold in 1936.
Edna and her husband moved to Washington, DC, in 1938, where she worked for the Department of Agriculture during the development of the Soil Conservation Service. This service was developed as a result of the Great Dust Bowl of the 1930's.
After living in Washington, Edna and Harold moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where she worked at the University of North Carolina Medical School in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
In 1963, after retiring from the University Of North Carolina, Edna and Harold moved to Lakeland, Fl, where she lived until her death.
Edna was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, University Chapter in Chapel Hill, NC. She was a retired Lakeland realtor. She was also a member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church in the Highlands in Lakeland, Florida.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. Harville, son, Ruffin Creel Harville, both of Lakeland and brother William C. Creel of Cary, NC.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Harville Best; son, H Hjorth "Nick" Harville; daughter-in-law, Jo Harville; and granddaughter, Kristy Harville all of Lakeland. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Cathie Swingle and husband, Wayne; and two great-granddaughters, Savanna and Sara Swingle, all of Plant City, Fl. She is further survived by a brother, Carl L. Hood, of Newport News, VA; sister, Sara H. Watson of Wilmington, NC; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces.
Visitation for Edna will be at Heath Funeral Chapel on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 3:00-5:00 pm.
A celebration of Edna's life will be held at Presbyterian Church in the Highlands on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 2:00 pm 1010 Lake Miriam Drive, Lakeland, FL, 33812.
