This Peyton was s/o Mark and Sarah (Pepper) Harwell, and was b.Jun 8, 1767 died 1816 ... His wife was Sarah Parham Batte, born c1772 died Nov 1832 d/o Capt. Wm Batte and Sarah Parham - she is named in her mother's will as follows: ~~~~~~~~ Greensville County Va., Will Book 2, pg.431, dated 1-26-1816 In the name of God Amen, I SARAH BATTE of the county of Greensville, Virginia do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner of following. Item, I lend unto my daughter SARAH HARWELL wife of PEYTON HARWELL one Negro boy Bob, one Negro woman Dinah and her increase, one feather bed of furniture, 8 head of cattle, all my earthenware and kitchen furniture and proceeds of the late of my crop and livestock except such of the stock hereafter given away and 8 head of sheep, the aforesaid property to be enjoyed by my said daughter during her natural life and at her death I give the said Negro Bob to my grand daughter FRANCES HARWELL and the said Negro Dinah and other property to be equally divided among all her living children at her death and in case of the death of my said grandaughter FRANCES HARWELL if that should happen before she arrives to lawful age or marriage, I give the said Bob to be equally divided as before directed among all the brothers and sisters of said FRANCES HARWELL, to them and their heirs forever. * (note - by my count she gave away 9 sheep below instead of the 8* sheep as mentioned above, not really all that significant... may be that the clerk copied a number wrong when he entered it in the will book) Item, I give unto my daughter MARY BATTE 3 Negros to wit Jack, Taby, and Jim & their increase, 2 cows and calves and 3 head of sheep, but my said daughter is to suffer my servant David to have the use of one of the cows during his life, to her and her heirs forever. Item, I lend unto my daughter ELIZABETH PARHAM one Negro woman Sally and her increase, one bed and furniture, and 3 sheep on my plantation in Prince George, and after her death I give the said property to be equally divided among her living children, to them and their heirs forever. Item, I give to my son ALEXANDER W. BATTE, my large copper kettle. Item, I leave to the hands of my daughter MARY BATTE one featherbed and furniture for the use of my grandaughter PATSY TUCKER and at her death to be sold and the proceeds divided among her living children. Item, I give to my grand daughter MARY GOODRICH one cow called River's cow and 3 head of sheep, 20 pounds to be paid her by my two daughters SARAH HARWELL & MARY BATTE to buy her a small Negro, each paying her 10 pounds, to her and her heirs forever. I nominate MARY BATTE executrix of this my last will and testament. In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of January 1816. Witnesses: EDMUNDS MASON, WILLIAM SAUNDERS .... SARAH BATTE (ss) ...................................... At a court for Greensville County 12 February 1816.... this will was presented by oaths of Edmunds Mason and William Saunders, the witnesses thereof and orderd to be recorded and on motion of MARY BATTE the executrix therein named who made oath thereof and together with PEYTON HARWELL and WASHINGTON GOODRICH her securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of $10,000 conditoned as the law directs. Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probate of the said will in due form. Notify Administrator about this message?
