Leonard, I think there may be some confusion in your generations here.
George A was Joel's father, not his son.The 1860 Pittsylvania County, Virginia census:

Lavinia Dodson 55 FVA
George was married to Mary A "Nanny" Barker on Dec 19, 1849
George was the son of Peyton Harwell b:cica 1770 in Brunswick County, VA, and his wife, Jemima Belew - they were married Sep 17, 1788, in Caswell County, NC.
We don't know for certain who Peyton's father was.
Would you be interested in doing a DNA study?It might be helpful in pointing us toward the right Virginia Harwell.
I don't have anything on Joel's descendants, if would you be willing to share those I would love to know about them.
