Referring to message #211 by Marilyn Blair in this forum, I have Jonas and Mary [or Maria] Housekeeper in my husband's line. The Tohickon Church records do show they were wed Sept of 1813, and the history of Butler County states Jonas was born in 1792, which would co-incide with that wedding date, but the census of 1820 in Harmonie, Connoquenessing Twp, Butler Co, PA lists Jonas Harzell; the 1850 census has him in Cranberry Twp, and the 1870 census for Jackson Twp, Butler County has himas 72 years old, [possibly going on 73] which would give a birth date of 1797**and Mary as 71 or born 1799 or so. Could they have wed in 1813?? or were there more than one couple with these names or are the birth dates per the census off??
Our line is: George Levi Hartzel born Sept 1863, and the Zelienople Historical Society had his baptism sponsors Maria and Jonas- St Peter Reformed Church of Zelienople, where I believe they are buried;1870 censusJonas 72 and Mary 71 are living with this family in Jackson Twp. :
George Hartzell 36, farmer, Margaret{Anna Margaretha Knauf} 35, Elias A. 8, George 6, Mary 1 who later married Burr; and Hannah 6 months who later wed Erman. This family later had more children:Sadie, Emma, Amos Munroe, and Anna Lisetta. This son George has names of his children just like those used by his father Jonas. Eli, George, Hannah is this the same family?? So far he is the only Jonas in Buler Co I can relate to.
