Harty Family Genealogy Forum

Bonnie,
Been off-site for a while, thought I might give ya one clue to set you in the right direction. In "Burkes Armory", a british tax collectors book of subjects has two Harty Crests. One, the oldest is simple and has few frills. The second was listed as being for a Robert Way Harty who was Mayor of Dublin in 1831, he was also made a Baron that year. The discription is a bit hard in that it does not explain the definitions of the words no longer in common use.
I took the trouble for the rich glitty one, it is a shield, devided in half. The band at the middle has three ravens, all facing right with wings folded. They are a real dark blue, the background is gold! Above, in the top half are two tri-leaf, shamrocks, and one single one in the lower half. It has a raven head on top of shield, turned right. At the bottom in latin is a motto, Death Before Dishonor".
I have been in contact with a couple of english and Irish Harty families, so far all are catholics, work with skill and craft, RN's, engineers, I am a woodwrights, lots of soldiers, as most of us seem to have been. Until my computer crashed I had collected many facts from pieces relating to the Harty family from England to Scotland as well as Ireland. Seems the earliest news was about the hundred battles, something to do with Connaught area. This was around 900 ad. Feel free to write me @ htophet@hotmail.com Bonnie. Joseph F.P. Harty
