I have a George W. Harty who is a sibling to my husband's great-grandmother. This George Harty shows on the 1900 Census in Spokane alongwith his wife Sarah E. and a son, Jonathan N. Harty born Sept 1881 in Iowa. Is this your Jonathan Niles Harty? .

George W. Harty's parents are Jacob Harty and Margaret Eslinger. Jacob's father Daniel Harty was one of the early settlers in Des Moines County. They were there about 1836 and settled near Augusta along the Skunk River. Daniel was the son of Dennis Harty and Jemima Bonnell from Tennessee. These Harty's go back to the early Dutch Settlers in New Amsterdam when the name was spelled Hartje. If this is your Jonathan I have lots of information on this line.
