Harty Family Genealogy Forum

I have a George W. Harty who married a Sarah E. Said on 12 Jun 1868 in Mt. Pleasant, Henry County, Iowa. He is the brother to my husband's great-grandmother Catherine Harty Braim. They were in Spokane by 1890. I just received George's Civil War Pension Packet which contains a marriage certificate for George and Sarah as well as his death certificate. He died on 8 Nov 1909 in Spokane. His wife Sarah received Widow's Pension and the file indicates her pension was dropped because of death on June 25 1923. Her exact date of death is not given.
George Harty was the son of Jacob Harty and Margaret Eslinger. Jacob and Margaret were married in 1836 and their family appears on the 1840 Census in Des Moines County, Iowa. I have also found them on the 1860 Census in Bear Creek Township, Montgomery County, Missouri. I can't seem to find them in 1850 or 1870. George and Sarah are living in New London Township, Henry County on the 1880 census. George and two of his brothers -- James D. and Isaac N. -- served in Co D, 49th Regiment, Missouri Infantry, Volunteers. They enlisted in August of 1864 and were discharged in August of 1865. They fought in the battle of Mobile.
Jacob was the son of Daniel Harty who came with his family to Des Moines County, Iowa in about 1836 after the BlackHawk War. I think that they had a bounty land grant. Daniel was the son of Dennis Harty and Jemima Bonnell from Tennessee and goes back to the Dutch Settlers in the early 1600 that were in New Amsterdam.
