Martha,
I didn't realize that there was a Matthew Hartwick in Pope County Arkansas in 1880. I am descended from a Matthew Hartwick the grandson of a Coonrod Hartwickfrom Mecklinburg County North Carolina and the one in York County South Carolina is probably the uncle to my Matthew based on his age.

There are only 3 Matthew Hartwicks that I know of. 1. The Matthew that Ihave been speaking about and who Ihave as the son of John and Susanna Pitman 2. This Matthew also had a son named Matthew Hartwick and these two Matthews are listed in Faulkner County Arkansas in 1880 census.
3.Another Matthew is the son of Asa Hartwick the brother of Matthew #1 above. He was in Stoddard County Missouri in 1880 and Ibelieve was also born there.

In Pope County Ihave a George and John Hartwick that are two brothers along with there mother in PoPE County and also in the same census you will also find them in Arcky Valley Township of Van Buren cOUNTY. tHER fATHER WAS A gEORGE hARTWICK AND there mother was Ann Cossey also a Hartwick descendent.

Darren
