Patrick...you probably have the will of (Captain) Paul Hartwell but here it is again:
Paul Hartwell, dated 9-13-1804, recorded 10-22-1804.To my son, Harrison - the tract or tracts of land where I now live, but reserving to my wife Mary her lifetime in the sd land. To my son Armistead - the tract where he now lives & the negroes I formerly gave to him. To my daughter Nancy Hartwell - negro girl Clitt, 1 horse, a good riding chair. To my daughter ELIZABETH TARVER - negro woman Silvey. All the rest of my estate to be divided among my children, ELIZABETH, Armistead, Harrison & Nancy Hartwell. Ex. My sons Armistead & Harrison Hartwell, Frederick Lanier. Wit. Fredk Lanier,William Gholson, Lewis Johnson. Probate indicates that Armistead Hartwell qualified to execute with William Gholson & Thomas Gholson Jr his securities. [Bradley, Brunswick Co., VA, Wills,Volume 5, 1804-1812, p. 15]
I am interested in the husband of the daughter, Elizabeth Tarver.
It appears that Paul and Mary's son, Paul, was in Northampton Co., VA, 8-28-1794, when he and Moses Wheeler and William Sanders witnessed the will of FREDERICK TARVER.
[Moses Wheeler was a son of Benjamin Whealer (sic) who died in Brunswick Co., VA).
Frederick Tarver died without children as he willed his estate to his brothers JOHN TARVER, BENJAMIN TARVER and ANDREW TARVER.
Andrew Tarver married Ann Young in Greensville Co., VA,
10-10-1785.
My ancestor, Benjamin Tarver (perhaps the brother mentioned above) married Hannah Smith of Brunswick, Co., VA, about 1785.
It is known that my Benjamin Tarver (1761-1821) had an older brother, JOHN TARVER, who became a Methodist minister and was responsible for the family converting from the Episcopal Church to the Methodist. [An Autobiographical Sketch, by Benjamin Tarver, Jr.]
Benjamin and Hannah Smith Tarver and their entire family of children and spouses moved from Wake Co.,NC, ca. 1808, to Wilson Co.,TN. Both are burid in Evergreen Cemetery, Mur-freesboro, Rutherford Co.,TN...the county where ARMISTEAD HARTWELL settled.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
