The ruins and foundation of the Henry Hartwell home remain and are visible in Jamestown. I visited there a few months ago and took pictures of the property.

I descend from Mary (Marie) Hartwell who married Joseph Wickes of Kent County, MD. Mary Harwell of Virginia, was brought to Kent County, MD after her marriage, in 1656, to Joseph Wickes. She brought with her, two children, Joseph and Mary. We don't know if these children were Hartwell children, or children of Joseph Wickes. I presume Hartwell to be Mary's married name. I don't know her maiden name, unless of course it is Hartwell, which would presumably make her a daughter of either Henry or William Hartwell of Jamestown, VA.

I understand that Henry Hartwell remained in Jamestown, and possibly moved elsewhere in VA. William Hartwell returned to England where he died in 1699.

If you can shed some light on this family, I would appreciate hearing from you. Please contact me directly at pje6431@hotmail.com. I shall be happy to share my phone number with you at a later date.

Thanks, Paula JEWELL Edens
