Jill: Winslow Hartwell Sawyer Was actually the daughter of Polly Mary Brown (One of Asa and Polly Brown's 14 children) and a man named James A. Holden. Winslow was born March 8, 1821 when Polly Mary Brown was only 14. One note I have says that James Holden deserted Polly and her new baby, so she went home to her father's home. She later married again, but left Winslow with her parents so he could be "raised a Sawyer." Asa and Polly adopted their grandchild, Winslow. Asa and Polly had many other children, the youngest of whom was only a couple of years older than Winslow.

In James A. Holden's defense, there is a tiny notation by his name that he DIED in 1821. That would be while Polly was pregnant with Winslow.

As far as the Hartwell name is concerned, I have no other Hartwell in an extensive list.

I have Polly and her father Jonathan Barnard, only.
