Walter, I too am interested in finding more information on this woman. I found a notation of the Mary Goldhawke Will of 27 Apr 1671, Kent county, MD ............... leaving her estate to brother Joseph Wickes and sister Rachel Wickes, in the event of the death of her unborn child. This would verify that Joseph Wickes, Sr.'s child, Joseph was alive and well in 1671. The notation that in 1657, a boy Joseph, "son of Joseph Wickes" had purportedly died might be the older step-son of Joseph Wickes who accompanied his mother to Kent Island, MD in 1656. Marie Hartwell was a widow, and I understand the two children were born to her and her deceased husband prior to her marriage to Joseph Wickes of MD. I'm trying to find a connection between the Wickes's of Kent,Talbot, Queen Anne's, MD and the Weekes of Isle of Wight, Northumberland, VA. Nathaniel Pope (Mary's father) "encouraged Joseph Wickes and his family to remove themselves from Kent County to Mattox, Westmoreland, VA" where we find our Joseph Weekes in 1690s. Can you help? Do you have any suggestions? I'm going to MD and Northern Neck, VA in May for two weeks to research the Weekes, Weeks, Wickes's. I'd welcome any information or tips you can hand down to me prior to my departure on 15 May 2007. Please write so that we can exchange phone numbers and talk about this.
