This John Hartwell must have been born 1777 or before (he signed petition to form Tazewell Co. in 1798 & would have to have been 21 or older). He had some problems with the law (court records) in 1800-1804. He is on Tazewell PP tax lists 1802-1818. He apparently owned land on Bluestone on or before 1 Aug 1809. The family ended up in what is now Mercer co, W.Va. In at least one instance his name has the designation "Jr.", suggesting that his father's name was John Hartwell. He probably died between 1815 & 1820. Email me if you'd like to compare notes (my wife descended through son Andrew). Bud
