Hartwell and Dawes

There is a William Hartwell on the 1810 census of Surry, Cheshire Co, NH. Included in the household is a Jeptha Daws/Dawes. According to the LDS this William died in 1814 NH. He may have been married to Polly Dawes and had children: Mille b ca 1799 NH, John b ca 1795 NH and Robert b ca 1797 NH, both of whom went to Genessee Co, NY and then on to Kent Co, MI, where they died later.
This William Hartwell appears to have been mixed up (Hartwells of America book) with the William Hartwell who went to Indiana and was the son of Joseph Hartwell, or the William who went to Indiana was not the son of Joseph? The William who went to Indiana died 1830-1840 Indiana. Anyone have any information to prove these two William Hartwell men have been joined as one or are they separate men? Thanks
