I'm sorry, I now realize that George Hartwell is the artist, not the subject of this portrait. The Antique dealer's ad is certainly ambiguous in that respect, and it is only on the dealer's website that the subject of the portrait is referred to as a "distinguished young gentleman," evidently of unknown identity.
I'm sorry if my first post misled Hartwell researchers. Certainly the dealer's ad misled me.
