Dear Laurie - Well, I have some news for you about Ms. Hartsook and I do hope that you still visit this sight because you might be the missing link that my family has been looking for. You see, my name "Amrah" is an old family name. I am the third generation to have it. The name "Amrah" came into my family because of Ms. Hartsook. The story that my family has always told goes as follows: My great-grandfather was to marry a lady by the name of AMRAH HARTSOOK. Two weeks before the wedding he ran off with the maid-of-honor, my great-grandmother. My great-grandmother felt badly about doing this to her best friend so she wanted to name her first daughter after Amrah, but my grandfather wouldn't hear of doing that. When my great-grandmother gave birth to her first daughter she was kept from naming her after Amrah. When my grandmother gave birth to her second daughter, my great-grandfather was away working on laying down the railroad tracks in North Carolina, so no one was around to keep my great-grandmother from naming my grandmother, Amrah Hartsook Fortune, born March 30, 1918 in Rocky Mt, N.C. My mother was named after her God mother, Jo and her mom, Amrah...thus the name "Jo-Amrah" was introduced into the family. My cousin who is about 2 months older then me was named after my mother, and I was named after my grandmother. Please contact me via this website, I would love to findout what you may know about Amrah Hartsook. She was such a big part of my family though she never knew it.
