Mrs. Sheldon,
My folks and I passed through North Carolina and visited the cemetery on December 28th. The sawbriars had been killed but not removed. We could only find three headstones among the sawbriars. I snapped a photograph of each but they are not real clear.

My family descends from Wesley's great-uncle, Andrew Hartsfield. I think both Andrews (Wesley's father, born in 1765, and his great uncle, born in 1746) spent their early childhood on what is now the "Land Farm" in Franklin County west of Bunn at an intersection Five Points (Highway 98 and Pearces Road). The house at this intersection appears to be contemporary with Wesley's house. There is also a cemetery at this house but no one was home so we did not venture into it. I suspect that Wesley's grandfather, Jacob Hartsfield (1737-1814), may be buried there. Jacob deeded this land (960 acres) to his son, Andrew (Wesley's father) in 1796 but continued to pay the taxes on it through 1814. Andrew paid taxes on the 960 acres in 1815 and 1820. In 1824 Andrew deeded the 960 acres to his son, James (Wesley's brother). James (about 1802 to 1836) deeded
the land in 1834 to his cousin, Jacob H. Cooley, son of Edward Cooley and Delilah Hartsfield, daughter of Jacob Hartsfield. Jacob H. Cooley apparently lived in the "Land Farm" house until his death in 1863. Jacob H. Cooley's son, Dr. Gideon Meredith Cooley, built a house about a half mile north on Pearces Road (still on the 960 acres). It too has a cemetery nearby.
I would love to hear from you, particularly if you have any interest in Jacob Hartsfield's farm. I live near Seattle and my parents live near Nashville. None of us had ever been to Franklin County before. (We also stopped at the Green-Hartsfield house and Mitchell's Mill Dam).

Eric Hartsfield
