As I indicated in my posting, I cannot prove the connections. However, there is evidence that points to it.Although I have not seen it myself, I understand that the church records of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Red Hill, PA, show the baptisms of 3 sons of Jacob Hartranft and Mary Geiger:Henry, John, and Johann Dietrich. The birthdate given for Johann Dietrich is 5 Feb 1802.
My Dieter's tombstone and other vital records have him born in PA in 1802.Knowing the common German practice of using the middle name as the given name, Dietrich could have been shortened to Dieter.
As I have already indicated in the earlier post, the 1830, 1840, and 1850 censuses show proximity of Jacob and Dieter, but still not proof. In the 1830 & 1840 Seneca Co. censuses, Jacob is certainly in the correct age bracket to be the father of Johann Dietrich/Dieter?.Dieter moved to Niagara Co. by 1840, but Jacob, Jr., Priscilla, and Christia Ann show up in 1850 in Seneca Co.
I have also seen the Anna Maria, wife of Jacob, who is buried in Burgh Cem., Seneca Co.Her age at death would have her born approx. 14 Oct 1776, some 4 years earlier than Jacob.Possible, but I have never seen Mary Geiger called anything but Mary.
A couple of years ago, I was in contact with Carolyn Bryant, who I believe is perhaps a cousin of yours? She indicated that a Rachel Hartranft of Waterloo, NY, had "the" family Bible with a lot of important family information.I assume you are the Jennifer she referred to in our correspondence.
I would be very interested in a copy of Dieter's land records if you have them.Let me know the cost, I will email you my snailmail address. If it is scanned, you also attach it to an email.
Glad to swap more data.Take a look at my website, I am always open to additions or corrections.
