Marilyn, the Thomas Harton who married Mary Wood, was the son of the Thomas who died in 1795. It is true that Harton is spelled several ways in the records--Harthon, Harthorn, Hartien. The only spelling Hartien I have seen was in a marriage bond in 1780 for a John Hartien to a Peg----, illegible. The children you attribute to Thomas and Mary Wood Harton are the sons of John Harton and Sarah Pegram, Daniel b. 1787; Gideon, b 1789; John,b. 1791; and Thomas, b 1793. Both their parents died before Oct of 1800 and their are court records in Warren County setting up guardianships for them and calling each "orphan of John Harton." I do not have an April in my records. I do have records from Wilkes and Hancock Counties in Georgia on the orphans of Thomas Harton: Lott, Ann L., William and John. Thomas seems to have died shortly after 11 Nov 1793 and an administrator was set up to handle his estate. Lott Harton appears in the Warren Co., NC, records, Deed Book 18m p 15, when he sold to his uncle Howell Harton on 6 March 1804 28 1/2 acres. He is described as Lott Harton of Hancock Co, GA, at that time. I think the land he sold was his 1/4 of his father's inheritance from his father. I would love to exchange information and I am especially interested in Mary Wood's connection with Hanover County, VA, since I had found no parents for her in the Warren County, NC, area. The marriage bond for Thomas and Mary Wood Harton was dated 24 November 1789 in Warren County, NC.
Best wishes, Jane
