Carol, 1st James Richard should be John Richard Hartley (Heartley; however, after an analysis of my available data I believe two men and families have been merged. I'm currently in the process of determining this unfortunate possibility. The children of James, regardless of who his parents are, is as follows. Samuel HARTLEY Tilman HARTLEY William HARTLEY John HARTLEY Joseph HARTLEY Mary HARTLEY All were born in North Carolina. However, I did find a Joseph Hartley, married to Celia who had a child named Ransom living in Jackson Washington Indiana on the 1850 census. Joseph was born 1815 Pennsylvania and Celia was born 1816 Indiana. The 1850 spelling was Sela. Ransom was born in about 1850 as his age is listed as 0. Sela (Celia)'s maiden name would be FOUTS.Father Andrew FOUTS mother Hannah FOUTS daughter of John Daniel FOUTS and Mary GARREN both born in North Caroina. Andrew was born in 1782 North Carolina and died 1843. Events occurring in Randolph County North Carolina. From what I can find he married Mary Bishop and at one point was living in Vigo Indiana, where my branch of Hartley's also migrated. My thoughts are that the early Hartleys are related. I just have to pinpoint where they became intertwined, as it were. Of course this is what all of us are trying to determine. If I can be of further assistance please let me know.
