Gary, I ran across this info in my records just today. In the Washington County Death Records 1882 - 1950 there is a John Hamilton Hartley b. 8-21-1832 d.10-1-1911, Franklin Twp. Wash. Co. Age 79y 1m 29 d. Husband of Nancy. Son of Jack Hartley (NC) and Lucinda Clary (NC). He is buried in Bunker Hill Cemetery.
I also have 2 Nancys'. 1. Nancy A. b.12-9-1839 d.1-6-1914 Franklin Twp. Age 75y 27d. Widow of John. Daughter of Simon Plott (VA) and Rebecca Link (VA). Buried in Blue River Cemetery. 2. Nancy Ann b.2-27-1849 d.5-2-1918 Age 69y 2m 5d. Wife of John. Daughter of John Calloway and Polly Sloan. Buried in Bunker Hill Cemetery. I don't know which one of these was his wife. I haven't been to those cemeteries in years.
John is very much a family name in our branch of the Hartley's. I'm unsure just how he is related to me. I am at a brick wall with my gggrandfather Joseph's parents and siblings. But since your John was in Washington County at the same time as my family then we are related somehow. Hey cousin!
