Hi Becky,
I have been told they were listed on the 1880 Census of Bell County. I was unable to find them on the Ancestry images. Can you give me the enumeration on that census?
This is information sent to me by Leah Raney. Her husband Clyde is a grandson of Mary Ellen. This is and excerpt from Percell's (son of Mary Ellen) writings;
·       “A Short History of the Raney Family – Percell Ames Raney, 1963”
“Mary ELLA (sic) Hartin, wife of Elery (sic) Ames Raney, was traced from Mary, Queen of Scots by a firm employed to do so. She was the daughter of the same John Hartin who moved to Georgia in 1832 from London, England. He was originally from Dublin, Ireland , the son of a sailor. He was educated at Savannah, Georgia, and had four years of college. He moved to Navasota, Texas in 1848. He bought a 4,000 acre plantation with 18 slaves. He had ten children; seven girls and three boys. All did very well. ELLA HARTIN was born July 16, 1875. She had four children. She was an excellent artist and seamstress. She had a reputation for beauty. The youngest to die, she died on April 1, 1909.

·       Bell County Cemeteries online – Killeen City Cemetery
Again, this is transcribed, since the original is an image (also transcribed, I think).
RANEY, E. A. 25-02-1869 31-7-1930 OS B 02
RANEY, ELLIE 22-07-1876 17-04-1909 OS B 02
RANEY, ETTA G. 17-12-1880 02-12-1918 OS B 02
RANEY, IRENE 09-08-1904 11-02-1946 OS B 02 dau of Elry and Ellie
RANEY, MARY 26-10-1900 09-01-1921 OS B 02 wife of J. C. Raney

I would think that the identification of Irene as the “dau of Elry and Ellie” and the fact that all are buried in the same plot, would pin down this “Ellie” as Mary Ellen Hartin, even though the dates do not match Percell’s dates.

Hopes this will give you some clues on John Hartin. Feel free to write me at glendal@houston.rr.com
Several members of the Raney family are researching this information as a team and you are welcome to join in. Tom Raney is in the planning stages of a website where we can exchange information which will make it easier for our growing group of cousins to share and more visable to others.
Thanks for sharing what you know with us,
Glenda
