Are any of the descendants of Edward William HART and his wife Maria MUMFORD (married in Hertford 1897) reading this posting? Did any of them emigrate to Australia or elsewhere in the 20th century? Their children were (with approx. birth dates based on English census ages): Edward Hart c1898 William Hart c1900 Mary Hart c1904 Cecil Hart c1907 Agnes Hart c1910 Teresa Hart 1913 Frederick Hart 1915 Florence Hart 1919 Maria MUMFORD (Mrs Edward HART)(born 1875) was a daughter of William Charles MUMFORD (c1852-1925) and his wife Harriet RIDGWAY (1848-1907). This William Charles MUMFORD, born at Digswell, Hertfordshire, was in turn a son (possibly illegitimate) of Sarah Elizabeth MUMFORD (c1823-1899), who died as the widow Mrs Richard ALLEN. This Sarah Elizabeth was the eldest offspring of Hertford bricklayer Edward MUMFORD senior (c1791-before 1881) and his wife Mary SOUTH (1799-1883). In the 19th century, the Mumfords of this family were based in Hertford and neighbouring Bengeo. For several generations some of the men were in the building trade as bricklayers and brickmakers. Two such bricklayers, Maria Mumford's brothers, Edward MUMFORD junior (1825-1898) [with wife Grace PEACOCK (1834-1910)] and his brother William MUMFORD (c1835-1890s) [with wife Frances SKEGGS (c1835-1914)] emigrated to NSW, Australia, in 1855-56 and 1858-59 respectively, settling first in the Camden-Picton area, and then from early 1860 in Wagga Wagga.
