I am in the process of sorting out and determining who all the Harshbargers are/were.
I have a Daniel Harshbarger, born December 1, 1825, who married a Lydia Miller.
This Daniel and Lydia had a son Moses, born 04/05/1850, and died 11/23/1921.
The father of Daniel is David, who was the son of Christian, the first born son in America of Christian Hershberger and his wife Anna.
Christian Hershberger and his wife Anna came to America October 8, 1737 aboard the ship Charming Nancy from Rotterdam (confirmed in several books listing early immigrants to America). They are listed as having arrived at Arch Street, Philadelphia.
BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL.This Christian and Anna brought with them a son Peter and a daughter Barbara.
However, there is a listing for another family of Christian and Anna Hershberger (by the way the change of spelling appears in the third generation (Daniel) arriving at Philadelphia in 1739.
Both families appear to have named their first born in America Christian. Here is where my notes show the two families differ.
Christian (1737)'s son Christian had a son David who had a son Daniel.
Christian (1739)'s son Christian had a son Daniel who had a son David.
If you go to www.gendex.com and search both spellings you will find over 3000 names with relationships.
By the way, the Moses you mentioned had a sister Priscilla E. who married George W. Watts and they had a son Homer William who is my maternal grandfather.
If you are related to Moses, I can give you a lot more names and relationships.
Most of this info I got in 1989 from a lovely lady in Huntingdon by the name of Jean P. Harshbarger who alerted me to the two different Harshbarger families in the Juniata Valley which encompasses Mifflin County.
If you are interested in comparing and sharing info, just email me, please.
