Robert Harreld, Harroll, was a son of James Harroll, Harreld, who settled on land and gave his name to Harrolls Creek which flows out of Little Walker Mountain into the North Fork Holston River.. His land (over four hundred acres) was located about two miles North of Wolf Hills (present Abingdon, Va. in Washington County). James died in Washington co. in 1796 and willed his land to his two sons James and Robert and daughter Mary Harroll Marshall. His will stipulates that the oldest living son of James II will receive the land willed to son, James, when the son becomes of age (21). The grandson proved to be James III and he sold the land (abt 200 acres) to Basil Warren in 1816. James II died about 1800 in Washington co., Va. He apparently suffered severe wounds during the Rev. War...
Robert Harroll, Harreld, was in the Battle of Point Pleasant on the Ohio River in 1774.. Later, he served as Ensign in the Cherokee Expedition when the Cherokee Towns in Tennessee (NC at the time) were burned. William Casey was Canoe Man on that expedition. (in charge of the canoes used by the troops). William Harreld and William Casey were neighbors in Washington co. ( Fincastle co) and by firing their rifles alternately, rescued William Caseys' sister and another girl from the Indians who had them cut off from the Fort one morning. (Blacks Fort)
Robert Harreld, Harroll, went to Kentucky between 1775 and 1780.. Robert was hired as Horsemaster during the building of the wagon road through Cumberland Gap from VA and TN (NC at the time) to Kentucky.. Robert Harreld attained rank of Captain of the Malita in Ky and organized a rescue party when the Montgomery Settlement was attacked by the Indians.. They rescued Margaret (Edministon)Montgomery wife of Robert Montgomery, who had been killed along with all the family, except Margaret. Robert Harreld later married Margaret Montgomery and raised a large family, settling in Warren co., Ky where he died in 1825.
This Harroll, Harreld, line is connected closely to a line of Harrelds in Russell co., Va. and Ohio (proven by DNA Tests). Both of these lines are connected very closely to Hugh Harrald, Herrell who settled in Rowan co, Burke, Yancey, Mitchell co. (western NC) about 1785.. Note: The DNA of these Harrell, Harreld, Herald etc. groups does not show any close relationship to the Harrell Groups of Eastern NC and Nansemond co., VA.. G. Lee Hearl, Abingdon, VA...
