Some further observations and questions regarding the search for Catharine HARROLD, spouse of John Harvey UBER b. 1775 Westmoreland Co., Pa.: 1) I don't think that Catharine HARROLD b. 1782, daughter of Christopher Columbus HARROLD, can be the spouse of John H. UBER. She listed variously online as marrying Thomas FOSTER abt. 1800-1807. The pre-1805 part of that range would exclude this person as a possible spouse of John H. UBER, because his children with spouse Catharine are listed with birth dates ranging from 1793-1805. Moreover, John and Catherine are listed as still in the same household in the 1850 Mercer Census for Wolfcreek Tp.: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pamercer/PA/Census1850/1850wc.htm 2). Regarding the children of John UBER and Catherine HARROLD, I notice that either the 1793 birthdate for their daughter Polly UBER is a bit early, or alternatively the 1782 birth date for Catherine is a bit late. (Catherine gives her age as 66 in the 1850 census, which would mean she was b. ca. 1784, which is even later!) 2) To try the process of elimination, I've looked at the other male siblings of Christopher Columbus HARROLD (sons of George Christoper HARROLD and Marie Catherine PONTIUS). John Peter HARROLD seems unlikely as the father, since he is listed with a daughter Catherine b. 1792 m. Wm. VAN DYKE. John George HARROLD seems unlikely, since he is listed with a daughter Catherine b. 1762, probably too early. This leaves Daniel HARROLD b. 1764. Interestingly, there seem to be a few discrepancies in LDS and online sources regarding Daniel; two spouses in various orders and at various dates seem to be mentioned. One is Elizabeth TROXALL, the other Anna Marie GRIBBS b. 1764. Since Daniel's sister Catherine (b. 1760) married John CRIBBS, I suspect that the other spouse listed was for Daniel was actually a CRIBBS. I notice that there is a Mary (Maria) Magdalena CRIBBS (b. 5 April 1764), sister of the John CRIBBS mentioned above (their parents were Johann Jacob KREBS b. 1730 and Sarah FEDELE b. 1735). So: Could Catharine HARROLD/UBER be a daughter of Daniel HARROLD and A.M./M.M. CRIBBS? This would more clearly explain why one of Catharine's grandsons was named Christopher Cribbs WINDER. 3) Are there other HARROLD families in Westmoreland Co., Pa. in the 1750-1800 time frame that could be the origin for Catherine? I welcome any information that could support or refute these theories. Regards, Richard S. Winder Notify Administrator about this message?
