b. 1804 TN. My James married Hannah Ratliff.
From several things I have read, I think James Harrod was the half brother of Thomas Harrod, both sons of John Harrod, b. 1700 Eng.
Is this Thomas the father of James Herod, b. 1765 NC, married to Elizabeth McCarty?
No, here is how it decends,
James Harrod b. 1668 Bedfordshire, England and died 1759 in Piscataway, New Jersey. He married Maria Kent 1690. She was born 1670 in Oxford England.

2. John Harrod m. (1) Sara Moore. (2) Caroline Downey 1722. She was born 1702 in Luton England and died 1733 in in Piscataway, New Jersey.

These are my 4th great grandparents.
Note: John Braxton Allen and Elizabeth Allen are brother and sister. These 2 couples were married on the same day near Canton Mississippi.
vi. Margaret Harrod b. 1810 d. about 1879 in Attala Co.Mississippi. She had downs syndrone. She died while in the care of Major John Braxton's son Wesley Dow Allen.
Wesley Dow Allen is my 3rd great grandfather.
Daniel McCarty Harrod b. 1812; d. 1881 Houston Co, Texas m. Mary L. White, May 28, 1840, Montgomery Co. Tennessee.
Barnabus Herrod owned the first brick building in Canton Mississippi. When he died he left the hotel to his daughter Mary Harrod.
Mary Herrod m. Bennett Allen. Bennett Allen is the Uncle of John Braxton Allen and Elizabeth Allen who both m. Harrods

James Herrod Deed to Daniel Moore} Received for record 20th March
Recorded March 30th AD 1855. The deed made and executed this 18th day
of March AD 1855 by James Herrod to Daniel Moore witnesseth that for
and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred and seventy eight
dollars & twenty cents to me in hand paid I the said James Herrod have
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain, sell and
convey to the said Daniel Moore and his heirs the west half of the
Southeast quarter and the west half of the south west quarter & E 1/2
of SE 1/4 of Section 30 and the E 1/2 of the E 1/4 of Section 31 NE
1/4, & NE 1/4 of Sec 31 & N 1/2 of N 1/2 of SE 1/4 of Sec 31 all in
township No. 7 of Range 3 East; also the __ of Lot No. 1 of Section No.
5 of Township No. 7 of Range 3 East all in Madison County and
containing by estimation four hundred sixty acres more or less. And I
do warrant the right and title to the said land myself and heirs and
all other persons legally claiming the same to him and his heirs. In
testimony of which I have herewith set my hand and seal the day and
date above written.

James Harrod b. 1765 in North Carolina lived next door to Major John Braxton Allen in the 1850 census, Attala Co. Mississippi.
