John Harrison of South Carolina

I am wondering anyone may have run across anyone named John Harrison who lived near Fairfield, South Carolina in the range of 1790 to 1860.

I was always told that my maternal grandmother's grandmother was a full-blooded Native American. She was Mary Dick Harrison (b. 1846), but she was an orphan by age 8. She was raised by her maternal grandmother Ann Vaughan Edmunds. I have found records of slave petitions (e.g. http://library.uncg.edu/slavery/details.aspx?pid=11747) that mention her parents (Mary Edmunds d. 1847 and Richard B. Harrison d.1854), her older brother John Harrison and her grandfather, John Harrison Sr(I have no dates for him but he could have been born close to 1800). The petitions show he lived near Fairfield, South Carolina in 1855. Later censuses of Mary Harrison show both of her parents were born in South Carolina. I have not been able to find the wife or other relatives of John Harrison Sr. I suspect his wife may have been Native American which would validate part of the family story.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Paul Tocci
