Hi Lois and All:

Mary Ann Key (wife of Hartwell Harrison) died and is buried in the Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana, Navarro Co., TX. The date of her death, if I remember correctly is the same. I belive that she went to TX after the return of her daughter, Mary Ann Haseltine Daniel and her husband Joseph Daniel to the States from Brazil.

I know that my Harrison/Key family information is not as complete as it could be. But, I'm sure that the 1860 AL census that list Hartwell as 36 and Phoebe as 49 is not the correct Hartwell Harrison and Phoebe Talbot Key who was his mother. You are a Key researcher - so you will know that Phobe Talbot, b. 1780 - d. Mar 1822. She was the daughter of Joseph Talbert and Sarah Jennings. I'm not sure who the folks in the census record are - but they are not the Hartwell Harrison who married Mary Ann Key.

By the way we were able to firmly establish & indentify that Mary Ann Harrison who is buried in TX is Mary Ann Key (d. of Henry Key and Phoebe Talbot)by her birth date which is etched on her graves headstone, and thanks to Henry Key keeping such good records in his bible & recorded her birth date.

I've not been able to connect Benjamin Harrison(father of Hartwell) to the 2 Harrison Presidents. Nor to Benjamin "the Signer". It seems like he was in the right place for a connection. Do you have more information?

I'm offering my accounting of this line for your review and would appreciate any comments. My line is through James Daniel and Lydia Davis - parents of Joseph Daniel who m. Mary Ann Haseltine Harrison in Monroe Co., AL & Elizabeth Daniel who m. Benjamin Henry Harrison. We believe that Haseltine was a name adopted by Mary Ann Harrison. She went by Ann H. Harrison prior to her marriage. She had an older sister named Mary Elizabeth that probably went by Mary.

Note: We know that Joseph Daniel and Mary Ann Harrison had other children - more than what is listed here. We know this because of the story written by Charles Davis Daniel “ Heroes of Home Mission - A Man’s Job” - he talked about the stateroom where “Charlie and three of his brothers were to sleep” on their trip to Brazil in 1866. (So, that would include Charles Davis (Charlie) & Joseph Stephen Daniel and two others - names unknown at this time) and “One of his little sisters sat litstless and still. Another sister became ill, and soon both died.” One of these little girls may have been named “Camilla” - there is a Camilla Daniel listed in the Passenger Lists. The loss of their young children took a huge emotional toll on both Joseph and Ann. They noted the moment of each childs expiration -to the minute. They died of smallpox & you could feel their agony at each loss.

I asked the daughter of James Perry Daniel - Carolyn MacGlormilk “Where did the name “Haseltine” come from. She said it was after a Missionary that was murdered in China and was well respected by Mary Ann Haseltine Harrison and her family.
