Joseph Gilliland Harris was born in South Carolina, probably in the Abbeville area where many of his father John's siblings were living. According to the Mifflintown Document he moved to Blount, Tennessee before 1801 so Joseph would have been a child. Later he is in Lewis, Tennessee and there on the 1860 census. On the different censuses he gives his age being born in 1987 and in 1997. Not sure which is accurate. I do think he was last in the birth order and William the first child was born in 1779. I haven't found any of the children going back to South Carolin to live.

from Mifflintown Document written in 1801-

John3, his brother, who had lived with his half brother-in-law John2, and sister Jane1, went to Carolina, married........., by whom he had William10 and other children. After her death he married whom he has other children. He now resides near Mayville [or Maryville], Blount Co., Tennessee. His children are William10, John Baird, Elizabeth4, Robert Marklin, Mathew Handy, and Joseph Gilliland------------1801

There were some Harrises with this line that descend from William Harris and Elizabeth Glen and they had some children removed from Cecil, Maryland to Virginia, but we don't know all of their names, so I am not sure if your Joseph Gray Harris would be related or not.
