Quaker John Harris, Hanover County, Virginia
I am interested in John Harris, a Quaker who lived in Hanover Co., Va., from the 1720s into the 1740s. He is reputed to have married Mary Stanley, largely because of an apparent son Standley or Stanley Harris who appears in the records of Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting of Friends.
I am working on the possibility that John and Mary (Stanley?) Harris had a daughter, name uncertain, but perhaps Ann, who married Thomas Lane of Hanover County. Thomas Lane was not a Quaker, but his son William became one. And in 1739 another son, Daniel Lane, signed the Quaker marriage certificate of Elizabeth Harris, daughter of John, and John Elmore, in the column usually used by relatives of the bride or groom. Similarly, when William Lane married Anne Crew in 1734, Stanley Harris signed in the relatives' column. This is slender evidence, but given the scarcity of early Hanover County records, it's something.
So, here are my questions:
1. Does anyone have even an approximate date of birth for the Quaker John Harris, Sr.?
2. Has anyone established who all of his children were? Are there even approximate dates of birth for any? The first marriage I have found is for son Daniel Harris in 1729.
