For the researchers who have the Harris line in Texas that was also in Stephens County, Texas:

Trinity Advocate
Texas
July 7, 1858
Desperate Killing Affair in Palo Pinto County
We have just learned the particulars of a desperate affair, which occurred in Palo Pinto County some two to three weeks ago, resulting in the immediate death of a Mr. HARRIS of that county, and the wounding of a Mr. PARSONS of Williamson County. It appears that Mr. Harris had killed a son of Mr. Parsons in Williamson County last winter, fled the county and settled in Palo Pinto.

Old man PARSON, the father of the one killed, his son, a cousin and another man started from Williamson County, as it now seems, for the deliberate purpose of killing Harris. On their way there was an accession to their numbers in Lampasas and of several more in Comanche County, until their number reached 13. They learned that perhaps Mr. Harris was not at home, but was at the house of one of his sons some distance.

They proceeded to one of the sons and found another man living there. They enquired the way to the house of the other son and learned from the family that old man Harris and son were in the woods somewhere. After consultation, they camped near the premises, keeping up a regular communication with the house on various pretexts.

In the course of two hours, Harris was seen returning. As he approached the house, four men presented themselves from behind a corner, he immediately recognized them as old man Parsons and his son and other enemies, and knowing their business, proposed to surrender and begged for his life. The answer was “dam you, we’ve got you now” and at the next moment he fell riddled with shot and balls.

About the same time, two men presented themselves from another corner of the house and fired upon him simultaneously. Old man Parsons received severe pistol shot in the shoulder and as Harris was found with a pistol in his hand, one chamber of which was empty, he doubtless inflicted the wound in the act of falling.

PARSONS was so disabled from the wound as to be unable to get off. Six of the men remained to protect and take care of him while the other six fled. Parsons and the six that remained were arrested and tried before a magistrate. Parsons was ordered to jail without bail and the others in default of bail. They were accordingly escorted to Weatherford under a strong guard and lodged in jail. Some of the accomplices have since been bailed.

The six men who remained with Parsons are supposed to have been the least guilty. As they were enquiring the way to Capt. FORD’S camp, they may have joined Parsons for the purpose of going there.

PARSONS and HARRIS are both represented as desperate characters. The former boasted to the guard that escorted him to Weatherford, that he had friends who would rescue him on the road. We have the above facts from a gentleman who was present at the trial before the magistrate. We leave out main the immaterial facts. Dallas Herald.
