John Harris, 1843

I am researching my direct paternal male ancestor, John Harris, who was born in Canada (East) in or around 1843.

The following are alleged about his history:

*his father was a farmer.
*both of John's parents were foreign born (not born in the US).
*John and his widowed mother emmigrated to the US sometime before 1861. They may have settled in Lewistown, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.
*John had a half-brother still in Canada when he emigrated.
*John was in the Union army during the US Civil War, served with the 9th PA Cavalry.

I know for a fact that he married Mary Myers after the Civil War ended and settled in Lewistown, PA, where her family lived. John and Mary had 7 children. John died in 1887 and is buried in Lewistown.

I am trying to find information about this John Harris, his parents, and their origins. Any help would be appreciated!
