I forgot to mention that in the 1860 census the federal census lists Clarinda Bliton with the Harringtons; but the state census of the same year lists her with Chauncey Bliton as the head of household, his spouse listed as "Melissa".Here are the notes I put in my research files:
"1880 Manchester, Hartford County, Connecticut has listed:
Alpheus Harrington, age 71 born RI (both parents, too) -- a weaver
Sarah Harrington, age 71, born RI (both parents, too)
Daughter Melissa, age 44, born Conn (both parents born RI) widowed
Sarah, granddaughter, age 22, born Conn? (parents father VT, mother CT)
I looked up harringtons because Clarinda Bliton was living with Allen and Lovina Harrington during the US federal census of 1860, but back in parents’(?) household in the Iowa census the same year.Figuring Allen Harrington could be a relative, I did a search for Clarinda’s mother, using the search terms Melissa Harrington, born 1836) hoping to find her before she married in 1850.She turned up widowed in Connecticut and was labeled “daughter Melissa” in 1880.Talk about stumbling upon a find!"
