I wanted to correct some misinformation here.I am Jackie Wood moderator Harringtongen and a direct descendant of Charles and Agnes Hill Harrington of Chatham Co NC.
Mistakes I noticed so you all can follow up on it if you like.
There is not a single legal document that anyone has found that shows Agnes as Rebecca Agnes. All legal papers only show Agnes or Agnis.
They only had 9 children, at least that's what the legal papers say.I have 11 listed but have never been able to verify 2 of them.
Charles's parents were not John and Mary Roger Harrington. This John was the brother of Charles who married Agnes Hill Harrington.
Any information to date back past Charles and Agnes is not reliable yet due to lack of documentation which we are working on now.We have lots of speculation and are making progress but no proof that Thomas and Mary Whitmel Harrington were the parents of Charles and John, nor is there any marriage record that has been found.
If anyone would like to contact me on this line I can provide you with the source info to proof the above statements.
William Dalrymple Harrington did marry 4 times and to the women mentioned.I have further info on the Dalrymple line (Ann's parents) out of Scotland if any of you need that.
The names of Cyrus Harrington's parents were first noted in "The Letters of John Harrington and Kate Duncan Smith"One of the letters written by John Harrington (who was the grandson of Sion and his first wife Elizabeth Watts) and dated Aug 25, 1894 states. "Sion married Elizabeth Watts and to that union was born three sons and one daughter: Abner, Thomas, Sion and Nancy His first wife dying, he married for the second time, Ann Dalrymple and the fruit of this union was John, William, Charles, Elizabeth and Mary. John was a Presbyterian minister, prominent in his church and after preaching for a while in Roberson Co., he moved to S. C. And married Miss Elvira Hutson and they had two sons and three daughters One of his sons was killed in the late Civil War between the States and all of his daughters married Presbyterian clergymen and one of his granddaughters married the justly celebrated Dr. J. I. Mark of the Presbyterian Church and who, I believe, is now doing evangelical work in the State of Georgia. John used to visit your great grandfather Drewry Harrington (Sion's brother) when he resided in S. C. William Dalrymple Harrington was married four times. His sons were Cyrus, Elam and Henry. His daughters were Eliza, Elizabeth, Annie, and Eugenia. Cyrus, after graduating from the University of N. C., studied for the ministry and after obtaining his license to preach, emigrated to Louisiana where he attained distinction in the Presbyterian Church. He died last year.
I have more info on Cyrus if you need it.I can be contacted directly at [email protected]
I am also interested in documentation on this line if any of you care to share.
Thanks,
Jackie
