Clinton / Jentilman confusion - Harrington connection
There seems to be a great debate over the marriages of Robert Herrington, Joan Jentilman, James (or John) Harrington, and Anne Clinton.
Some say that Robert H. married Joan J. and their descendants became the Herringtons of Watertown, MA. Others say that James (or John?) H. married Anne C. (descendant of the Earls of Lincoln)and THEIR descendants became the Herringtons of Watertown, MA.
Questions:
Is it possible that Anne Clinton first married a Jentilman, then married a Harrington(s) with her former married name attached to history?
Is it possible that James Harrington could have also been called "JOHN" Harrington?
I have found an online link that "may" show that Anne Clinton and Joan Jentilman are the same person... meaning they list Robert's wife as "Joan Anne Jentleman Clinto" [sp]. Not sure of its accuracy.

There is a great synopsis, though lengthy, of Robert H. at:

"!The mother of Robert Harrington may have been either Joan Jentleman or Ann Clinton. There is evidence for both cases and more research needs doing."
The following link shows that Joan was married three times;Robert Herrington (mar. 1613 Bath, England - No children), James (John?) Harrington (mar. 1613 Bath, England), and finally, John Youngs (mar. 25 Jul 1622 Southwold, England).Does this explain the division of the the Harrington lineage between James (John) Harrington and Robert Herrington?

If you have Early Generations of the Family of Robert Harrington of Watertown MA 1634 and Some of his Descendants, (by F. L. Weis, Worcester, Mass., 1958), it mentions the same confusion.
Hopefully closer to a solution,
