Do you have any marriage records for any of the people you are looking for? (Sounds like you are looking for records before 1880. Correct?)
I write a lot of letters to various states, so I don't recall where your "Nininger Township" was located.
Usually there are old plat books that show sites of the local churches & schools. Back then, both were in the country.
Do you know where they lived in Nininger Township? If not, order land records from the county recorder. Ask for a copy of their deed. That should give you more amunition to deal with the county historical society. There is a master reference book available at major libraries that lists the county records for each courthouse in each state. The address would be there. If you can't find that publication, ask the historical society for the county where Nininger Township is located.
Do you know how to read a plat after you receive the legal descriptiion? If not, make a copy of the deed andmail that to the county historical society and ask them to copy an old map and mark the site of their property in Nininger Township. When you receive that copy back (and "marked"), check to see if there is a M. E. Church nearby.
If that don't work, there is a way to write to the Methodist Archives. But I have not done that for several years. So I don't remember if I still have that address.
Please feel free to contact me again & I will gladly answer other questions and make other suggestions.
Ok, I just remembered we have a Minnesota Atlas. Niniger is the township shown west of Hastings; south of the Mississippi River in Dakota County. Correct? If this is correct, did you write to the Dakota County County Historical Society, 130 Third Avenue North, South St. Paul, MN 55075? (That is who I contacted back in 1987.)I would think that the county historical society would be more helpful than the City of Hastings Historical Society.
Please send me the names and dates you have and I will try checking another source too. (Do the children you mentiioned have the Harrington Surname?) If I do find something, where do I send it?
