Was Nathaniel Harriman a Tory?

I am a descendant of the Nathaniel Harriman born in 1758 that married Bethania Snow. He received a grant of land in Cobourg, ON, Canada, in 1797 for services rendered in the American Revolution, supposedly in the Continental Army. Does it not seem more likely that he received the grant for services rendered to the British? Does anyone know? And was he buried in Forrestville, NY?
