Hello,
I have Rev John Harri(e)s arriving in Newfoundland in 1787
and taking a position at Placentia- he was with the SPG.
There are a number of references to his work-as a missionary between 1787 and 1791 he travelled to Ferryland, Burin, and around Placentia Bay. In 1791, he was requested to move to St John's the capital. He worked at what is now
the Anglican Cathedral of St John the Baptist and died and was buried there in Jan 1810.
In the 1794 census he had a wife and five children-one son and four daughters and several servants.
Two of his daughters are identified in H Mosdell as
Jane and Sarah-an account of a school concert.
Many of Rev John Harri(e)s letters appear to have survived
in the records of the SPG.
I believe I am descendant from his son- William?- who located in Ferryland and married there is 1811.
What is your connection?
