Dear Anita,
I am also a direct descendant of this Harrell family. My ancestors were Lydia Harrell and Calvin Rogers. Their daughter, Mary Winnie Rogers, married William Jasper Hasty, son of Peebles Hasty and Elizabeth Stegall.
Mary Rogers was born in October 1849 and died in 1934. William J. Hasty was born abt 1844 and died in March 1873. They were married in Union Co NC in 1865. Their three children were William Thomas Hasty, born October 3, 1866, in Wadesboro, Anson Co NC; Ella Hasty, born July 25, 1868; and Susan Jane Hasty, born October 7, 1871.
William J. Hasty died of causes unknown at this time, and the widowed Mary married her second husband, Moore Dean, son of Reddick Dean.
Mary and Moore Dean had about seven children. Moore Dean also left her a widow, and she died in Greenville, SC in 1934. I have a copy of her death certificate listing her father as Calvin Rogers and her mother as Lydia Harrell.
Her son, William Thomas Hasty, married Susan Annie Young and they settled in Kershaw Co. SC with a large family. One of their sons, James Alton Hasty, was my great grandfather. He married Emmie Clyburn Young, and their eldest daughter Janie Madalyn, is my grandmother.
My grandmother has several pictures of Mary Winnie Rogers, and remembers her from childhood. She was 8 years old in 1934.
I am very interested in any information you are willing to share with me about the Harrell family. I have a very extensive database of info on the Hasty clan, including the other Harrell/Hasty marriages, but I have little on the Harrells...
Thanks! Hope to hear from you soon!
