MARY,
Know it been while since ya posted this and just doing some checking on old news to see what missed..
I have a Lewis Harrell b abt 1780 who married an Ann Timmons (1781) daughter of Capt. John Calvin Timmons and Mary Sarah Simmons in Darlington. Could this be the one who died in 1822 before his father, yet after a son was born in 1821? Also I've seen some confusing dates for the Lewis Sr....anything from 1741-1767 and same for Sarah Perkins anything from 1760-1775. The later dates concern me as do some of the estimates for Lewis son Lewis when he is listed as the brother of Mary Harrell Myers, wife of George and mother of Sarah Perkins Myers. That Lewis is given a birth date of 1774, which would have been impossible for a man born in 1767 to have achieved, let alone a wife born in 1775. Have two separate families or generations possibly been combined? Please clarify this if you can.
A couple of things jumped out at me here:
Jacob Harrell of Saint Johns Parish (Berkeley County) SC made out will filed in 1787 in Charleston SC with a Charles Lining, Esquire, Clerk. In this will he listed following as his children:
1) Levi Harrell -- also choice to be exeuctor to will and thus was appointed about mounth after it filed as such.
2) Leacy Barfieled -- have learned she wed a Charles Barfield from SC he after American Revolution gained large amounts of land..
3) Selah Simmons -- also made her mark as witness -- more on her with Silas Simmons...
4) Ann Timmons -- on the retype public view copy some idiot changed the T to an S and had been carring her as Ann Simmons but on seeing the original will it is T.Thus believe she the wife of John Timmons, Sr/RS.. will explian reasoning below...
5) Mary Black -- this one hard to track due to surname but most probable she wed a James Black....
6) Martha Curtis -- she harder to track and have yet to get solid information on her spouse
7) Jasper -- probably came of age by 1785 and got lands in SC near holdings of his brothers Levi and Lewis...
8) Lewis -- clearly noted as son to get just three quineas as he already had lands from Jacob estate probably getting them around 1785 along with Jasper getting his lands...He is said wed Sarah Perkins daughter of Lewis Perkins who surveyed many of the land plats recieved by Lewis and other known relatives of his...Believe they wed just after American Revolution by 1784... thus him picking up lands around 1785 to settle down. There are two wills on Lewis one dated 1822 recorded early 1823 indicates he married a Melissa expecting a child and a single daughter; this is I think the same will filed as codicil in late 1823 that indicates no wife or new child but now leaves his estate to a married daughter Mary Anderson (possible wife of Henry Anderson but still working on proof) and the sons of two his dead sons: A) Jacob (died between 1825 Tax and 1829) had Joseph B) James (will four days before Lewis will in 1829) had Matthew. Both Joseph and Matthew names show in Lewis final will of 1829..Also he indicated in early will 1822 that he held two plantations 1) Bass in Darlington 2) Where Mrs Green Smith living in Marion (formed 1800 from Darlington).
These are the items off SC Archives on the wills of Lewis and James.... as refered to above with Lewis Harrell..... and my notes added to them......

Will of James Harrell son of Lewis Harrell story goes Lewis was on way to courthouse to settle estate of son (James) and died on steps of courthouse...Also story goes his wife was buried alive and woke when grave robbers cut her finger to get a ring she had been buried with, they let state, she walked home in white gown she buried in covered with dirt. She would live long enough to have her child but both would die shortly after the birth..Thus fits Milissa was expecting in 1822 and he changed his will in 1823 about time she would have had the child...As he would live until 1829 it possible he rewed between 1823 and 1829 to Sarah Perkins...as it possible she was a widow also...
