Jacob Harrell will places him of South Carolina in St John's Parish.Goes on to talk about him bein weak in body and perfect in mind and normal open for a will.He then wants his just debts paid. Then to his Grandson Levi Harrell he leaves 204 acres of land on Washmasaw Swamp it being the Land that I now live on only my well beloved wife is to have her life time on it.Then he continues to to give all his living to her and wants it 'equaly divided among my children viz(t). Levi Harrell, Leacy Barfield, Selah Simmons, Ann Simmons, Martha Curtis, and Jasper Harrelland to my son Lewis I will bequeath 3 guineas which is all that I desire him he xxxx (a word had been type over as this a typed copy of the original produded under a State Grant to have all the original hand written document typed and put into binders and thus these open to public view and not the hand originalsfor the most part it runs okay there are a few place where they over typed or hit a wrong letter Ann Ximmons name shows they tried to correct the S but other than possible spell errors it is in pretty good shape not able to say how close if follows the original and it there were parts left out as it reads well and seems to follow patterns set in most wills of the time now to continue with the will)shall have of my estate except what he has recievedAnd I make choice my Son Levi Harrell and Silas Simmons to be my Executors revoking all other wills heretofore by me made.I do declare this and this only to be my last will and Testament in witnefs (document has witnefs should be witness just a minor type error on part person retyping off original also they tended to not put a period at end of all of the sentences so I left them out also) whereof I do set my hand and seal the 22nd day of January 1787.
Jacob (his mark) Harrell (seal)
Signed Sealed and Delivered in the Presence of us -
Levi Harrel - Samuel (his mark) Tindal - Selah (her mark) Harrell
Proved before Charles Ling Esquire O.C.T.D.February 16, 1787.At same time Qualified Levi Harrel Executor..
Then it has a legal mark of some type that says (Examined 59/ 3 Co. Sh. C.L.)
Recorded in original will book "B" 1786-1793 Page 84..The actual will is now on pages 120 and 121 and can't tell you the book but Jacob Harrell was the only Harrell or any odd spell of name that found in the early indexes and can't say for the later as only worked with the early books...
I made a check on Silas Simmons and found he wed Selah Harrell since his will also in Charleston dated 1795 names her as his wife (due to type error her name reads Lelah Simmons in his will but it was common to see f l s mixed up...as words like issues might show as ifsuel or worse) Silas Simmons of S(t) James GoosCreek (the t in St is a high hit one type and that is how they have GoosCreek typed)
Silas Simmons and Selah Harrell Simmons family is one that would take to long to sort as I'm trying to sort it out.Seems Selah wed a Joshua Nettles first who had two minor sons by his first wed (will it is JOShua, Sr but to find them look for JOSeph as think in original they used simply JOS and the typest selected what she thouth JOS was, this same thing can happen with JASper and JAmrS as they shorten the names to JAS and later depending on who is doing the)these being JAmeS and JOShua (the will shows names as shown only I raised the JAS and JOS to show what might been only thing written on original by hand..) reading it gets changed..)Anyway Selah ends up with these two minor Nettle sons and thus weds Silas Simmons as his first wife and her second husband bringing along the two Nettles boys.Silas and Selah from what I've been able to find out never had but a daughter named Hester Simmons, and this is were this line gets confusing so will just leave you here with them...
Ray,
I believe that:
Levi Harrell 1750 to 1806 was the son of Jacob Harrell thus the Francis Harrell died in 1804 in Johnston Co NC leaving a widow Mrs Sarah Cole Harrell alone with minor kids.As possibly when Jacob died in 1787 he Francis became the head of the family thus Levi looked to uncle Francis for support and guidance and that Levi kids being Levi 1777 Asa 1779 Francis 1780 (remember Levi served with Swamp Fox Francis Marion and his uncle was Francis and his GP was Francis so he named one son Francis)William 1784, Esther 1801 (reason for break is think Levi served late toward end of REV WAR as dates on papers for him show 1792 so he was gone may up to then for home thus while he was away his young wife and kids my have moved to live with uncle Francis and aunt Sarah until Levi home as figure Francis and Sarah had son kids on there own also these would later be confused as half siblings as you probably don't have any idea where Mrs (Aunt) Sarah Cole Harrell went to after uncle Francis died in 1804 about same time the story goes that Levi was working and finding his second wife..)
I feel when Francis died she came with her youngest children to live with Levi in the house that Jacob had left grandson Levi and that over time Aunt Sarah became Mama Sarah to the kids of Levi her nephew and he became Papa Levi to her kids by Francis. Some of the odd names that show up as half siblings are Jacob, Samuel, Ethledred, Isaac, and maybe a Moses and John..
You mention Burch Harrell and I agree it has errors in it because the list Jacob Samuel and Etheldred as half brothers and never mention Isaac intil they talking under Asa about Levi William and Isaac all bothers serving in War 1812 in a period around 1813...Then BHAF also includes a Moses and says he not a brother to the others but might be another relation to them, just not a brother.
Anyway now believe that Levi Harrell RS had only one spouse a Miss Esther White and that the widow Mrs Sarah Cole he was suppose to have wed and had all these kids with before 1804 and the between 1804 and 1806 have a whole bunch more with his second wife...No he had all his kids up to 1801 with Esther Harrell being born to him by his only wife Esther White them Aunt Sarah come in with more young kids and folks got confused as to who was who in the Levi Harrell House...I don't think Esther died before Levi died as believe she kind of got lost under Aunt Sarah...Also another thing is that both Levi RS and Aunt Sarah died in 1806 so another reason to assume they married if you don't know the family that well..Reason I feel this way is my dad and his siblings lost both their parents while still young and it was my Great Uncle Gus or Doc Harrell that took them in.. until they were old enough to get out on their own or he died...And since my dad was named for him people have asked me questions about that line like they think I'm a direct part of it..I do know my second cousins down that line but little else about the rest of the line off top my head,.,..
Well better cut this now,,,Wayne
