SYLVIA STARKEY 8/29/02
I posted the query for my wife, the former Elouise Harrell. She is the great-granddaughter of James Perry Harrell, the granddaughter of Elbert Alexander Harrell, and the daughter of William Hanson Harrell, called Willie. She says that her father always said that James Harrell left Bartow, Georgia, on the train, with his two brothers at the beginning of the Civil War and that he was the only one who returned home at the end of the war. I have been in touch with Ed Harrell, grandson of John Harrell (Jesse Harrell's brother)and son of Bartow Harrell.Ed lives in Rome, Georgia, but he is now in Florida with his father, who is in a terminal illness. When he returns home, he is going to send us copies of some records he has on James Harrell.Ed had never heard the story about James's two brothers. He did say, however, that he had heard something about a one-legged brother who lived in Texas.I suppose there must be some truth about these brothers, but it will be hard to prove anything. We are forwarding an e-mail from Ed that says something about James's possible mother. If you wish to communicate with us, please send us an e-mail at [email protected].
